Will do but need firm amount and would like to also have date confirmed for
the auction.  Yes, I could look at the calendar but want to make sure of the
date.  If the plant books are available you may wish to consider some of
them (Erik knows which ones I mean- spiral bound).

Erik, thanks for the wake up call. We do need to start planning right away.

As far as an organizer goes, I think I can speak for the entire board when
I say that we were, and still are, hoping that you would be able to do this
- especially the technical end of it, as this has worked out so well in the
past. I think we do need to have a "Plan B" in place though, just in case.

I see such a plan as being low-tech, the way it was done before the current
computer-based system was developed. Those auctions were held back before I
joined, so I have no experience with them.
I have been reading through an email you put out two years ago titled
"PLANT AUCTION JOB DESCRIPTION" which outlines in detail everything that
has to happen for a successful auction. In it you mention a "split form" .
We might be wise to have a stack of those on hand along with anything else
we would need to run a computerless auction.
I will have copies of this outline for board members at the meeting
Tuesday. If anyone else wants one, let me know.

Plants: Last year I think we spent around $350 at ANW for plants, and I
think that included a big box of bogwood. (Susan, could you verify the
amount please? Thanks). Maybe this year we should go with a smaller
quantity of plants and skip the bogwood since we did it last year. As Clay
pointed out, attendance may be lower this year.
Sam, thanks for offering to work with ANW again this year.Yes, we'd like to
try it again with them this year so please contact them. Guess we'll have
to get back to you on the amount we wish to spend. (I'll throw a figure of
$250 out now. Comments?) And we can definitely use your help at the auction!
Non-plant items? books, substrate, fertilizer, CO2?

Computers: A request for members to volunteer their laptops, put out on
GSAS member and GSAS announce might be in order here. Technical details of
what equipment, cables etc. is needed would need to be included. Might be a
good time to ask for human volunteers also - auctioneers, baggers, runners,
data input etc.

Seating: If necessary we could drag some of the seats out of the classroom.
I can also ask Judy about the availability of extra folding chairs.
We'll have both the common area and the classroom for our use so there
should be plenty of room.

Publicity: Seems to me that most of the people who attend are members of
GSAS or other clubs. A nice big announcement on the website, making special
note of our new location, would probably work well. We should also notify
Portland and Vancouver. Ads in newspapers have flopped in the past. Craigs
List? AGA website?
