Re: [GSAS-board] PLEASE REVIEW: GSAS April 2005 Meeting Reminder - Tuesday, April 12, 2005 - Start Preparing Now!

Sounds great except for "Auction operation will be explained by auctioneer at the start of the auction". How about: "The auction rules and guidelines will be explained by the auctioneer at the beginning of the event."

Have you found any of those Ebo Jauger heaters and Marineland powerheads from June in your garage?

I ordered more postage stamps for Steev and will mail them to him when they arrive today or tomorrow. I wrote myself a reimbursement check.

Don't forget we have some new members, so we will need cards for them and more forms for new members to fill out. Make sure they have an area for new or renewal, email address, and maybe a box for payment form? (cash or check)

It would be very nice to have instructions on how to join the member chat list in the welcoming letter that I mail out. Maybe the next batch of letters we print out later, we can have that on there.

The Greater Seattle Aquarium Society will be holding its regular, April Meeting on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 7:30pm in the outer commons area of our ?new? (as of this club-year) meeting place at Seattle Pacific University.

This month's meeting is our very popular General Auction!

Come check out the great selection of items available at this year's auction.  We have several new donors this year.  In an attempt to answer some commonly asked questions, we've included the following "Auction Guide."

AUCTION RULES AND PROCEDURES:

BIDDING: You will be issued a bidding number on a card. If you wish to bid on an item, hold that card up so that it gets the auctioneer's attention. Auction operation will be explained by an auctioneer at the start of the auction.

CHECKOUT: After you have paid one of the recorders, keep your bidder card. One of the runners will pick up a printout of your receipt, and your "loot pile" in the staging area.  These will be then brought out to you.  Please remain outside the staging area unless you are invited to enter by one of the runners.  This helps to minimize confusion."

EARLY CHECK OUT: You can check out before the auction ends if you like. One of the recorder stations will be designated as the early checkout station. Keep in mind that ONCE YOU ARE CHECKED OUT YOU WILL BY UNABLE TO BID ON ANY MORE ITEMS.

SPLITS (Members Only): Splits work this way; members may bring in items to sell at the auction. Quantity is limited to twenty items or "lots" (bags or boxes containing more than one item). 60% of the top bid goes to the member, 40% to the club. Splits will either be paid at the auction or mailed out within a few days depending on how frantic things get during the auction.  It is crucial that members desiring splits get their sale items logged into the system well BEFORE the auction starts. Please do this as early as possible!

SELLERS:  Please make sure your fish are bagged properly (WATER-TIGHT) ? No Leaky Bags PLEASE!  Also, it is very helpful when you clearly label used equipment as ?Working,? or ?As-Is,? or ?For Parts,? or ?Leaky ? Needs new seal,? etc.

BUYERS:  Remember to bring coolers in which to transport your fish home.  You might want to start cycling that new tank today!

LARGE ITEMS: There is a ramp providing easy access to Weter Hall via the handicapped parking area behind the building.  There will be one or more carts or hand-trucks available for transporting large or heavy items to and from the auction room.  To get to the handicap access area behind Weter Hall at SPU, please refer to the directions and map which are linked from our website.  When approaching the tiered parking lot?

·         Continue on West Dravus Street PAST the tiered parking lot (#45) as the street makes a slight bend to the right.

·         Turn RIGHT onto 6th Avenue West.

·         Turn RIGHT into the small parking area between buildings number 8 and 10 on the map.  You may unload/load your larger items there, but you MUST return to the tiered parking lot to park your vehicle during the meeting and auction as space in the ramp access area is VERY LIMITED.

·         Follow the access ramp to the level where Weter Hall (#28 on the map) is located and enter at the main, front entrance on the South side of the building.

Thanks for supporting the Greater Seattle Aquarium Society through your donations and purchases!

Special Auction Schedule...

6:00 Doors open for you to bring items to be sold.

6:30 Even if you're not bringing items, come early to Pre-View.

7:00 SPECIAL, EARLY Start-time for the meeting - Auction to follow

So, please make plans to attend, get involved, and watch our club grow!  The doors open for the general public at 6:30 so come a little early and get acquainted with others that share your love for all things aquatic! Check out our website for directions and other interesting information at www.gsas.org .

We'll see you on Auction-Night!
