[GSAS-board] Fish-O-the-Month Chair

Hi Monica,

CONGRATULATIONS! And Thanks for volunteering to help our club by chairing Fish-O-the-Month. The board met last Thursday evening and unanimously approved your name. I will ask Erik to update the website in the near future.

Now, for your first official “assignment,” would you please arrange to purchase three nice Aquarium Plants from African Northwest and bring them to our October meeting? The combined cost should be no more than $30.00.

We would encourage you to develop a relationship with this (and the other) sponsors. If you explain to them what Fish-O-the-Month is, and how it is used (as a door-prize) and that their store name will be mentioned during the drawing, some of them will be willing to give the club an extra discount/wholesale price. At a minimum, those that offer a regular discount to our membership will do so if you show them your membership card. Some months, the board will have a fairly specific request (like this one) and other months, it will be more general and you will be free to shop around as much or as little as you would like.

It is also helpful (especially with somewhat uncommon fish/plants) if you could be ready to explain a few facts about them just before the drawing – nothing long or fancy, just something to give the members an idea of what is being offered. It’s probably not necessary for this month’s topic (plants.)

Also, Susan (our Treasurer) is almost always at the meetings and will be able to reimburse you for the cost of the items the same night – just bring your receipt and give it to her.
