RE: [GSAS-board] Plant List (fwd)

Hmm... though I'm pretty busy with the kids most of th etime, I'm always one e-mail or phone call away... must confess, I was confused at being told not to order the plants until board approval... nobody ever did that in previous years.

Anyway, do you want Sam to still order the plants? Time is ticking...

We didn't know what the situation was like in choosing the plants for the

Hi folks,

I just wanted to note that this list from Susan is definitely a "picky"
list. As I am not even purchasing these myself, but relying on a longtime
member with a tenuous contact with ANW, I forwarded it with a note of
"feel free to ignore and just get a variety, asking for some unusual
species." We have sometimes put in special requests, but have never sent
them that specific a list. While they sometimes deliver plants we don't
specifically want, they've always given us some pretty sweet deals on
price.

If you really want to get stuff that specific, you should probably
buy the plants yourselves, and just have me run computers...

Hi Erik:

Here is the list. What I've noticed is that some plants like the crinum,
clover, lotus and others get good prices. I never see glossostigma and I
bid
high for the hairgrass that I got last year. I think Sandu paid $12 for
the
crinum. While it is neat to get a really big Amazon sword for $10-$15,
those
kinds of plants are readily available and are also brought in by members
to
sell. You've done the auction for quite awhile, so you probably know the
kinds of plants people usually bring in. I think if we order some more
interesting and usual plants it will peak people's interest and be a more
fun auction. I put some plants in bold that I thought would do well. Use
your best judgment and see what can be available. We can spend up to
$400.

We are also getting bogwood, up to $150. We would like to get Kiki wood
too.
I don't suppose it can be a mixed bag?

Susan
