Re: [GSAS-board] REALLY need backup plan for auctio

I will be over Monday night, just tell me when is the best time to be there.

That would be great if I could get the basic system from you. Otherwise I
will do the best I can with recording and split calculations.

Thanks
Paul

The big problem here is that I'm out of town until Monday afternoon. If you can come over Monday night, I could TRY and set you up with the hardware, and I can even have the labels and cards done by that time. That might be doable. If not, I can generate the PDFs for the labels and cards from here.

You definitely can't cold-install the software on any system. It's a very old linux disto that I got the printer configuration working on many years back. But I can get you the machine, laptop, access point and barcode equipment.

My worry, though, is that the system is a little too funky even now. You saw the pain getting the printer working. It seems like I have to send a specific file to the printer to get it to print correctly.

Anyway, make sure that backup plan is working... i.e., if you enter everything in excel, make sure there's a way for folks to check out, good physical recorder, etc. The splits are a bitch without the barcode system.

Hi Erik,

Could I arrange to meet you sometime and get the software and printer. I think I could setup the network with a few minutes of instructions. I also have a wireless router and maybe come up with enough equipment to have a minimal system with 3 stations.

At a minimum I would like to print labels and bidder numbers, just getting the templates and stickers would help.

My backup plan is to use excel to record the item sales.

Thanks
Paul

An update. It is now VERY LIKELY I won't be able to be at the auction, which means no computers. I need to be helping Kathy out with something on Tuesday, and though she's offered to impose on friends instead, I would still need to book $60 worth of babysitting in order to be there. It is a difficult decision for me to do this, but I think I need to.

Best of luck to everyone, and I'm very sorry.
