Oh I agree, they aren't like a freshwater plant where you drop it in and
forget about it. However, I had one of these very critters, in my main
55gal mixed tank (fish, inverts, anenomes, urchins, etc.) and he lived
almost a year with no issues whatsoever. He ate small frozen shrimp that I
fed waved in front of his rock, and would sometimes come out and let me hold
him even.
Again, don't believe everything you read on the intertubes :-) The whole
gist of my talk tomorrow is to NOT be intimidated by such stuff, and to know
you CAN do a salt tank with ease. Sure, a dwarf octo isn't for everyone,
but I'm a relative amateur and it worked for me just fine.
If the board thinks it'll be an issue, I'll politely decline the donation.
But I wouldn't be so thrilled about it if I hadn't had one myself!
