I usually list the donors to the big auction on our website. The Fish Store has traditionally offered a donation to the general auction, but never member discounts or anything else. The reasoning, from "crusty old Frank", has been that a donation helps the club outright, while member discounts just help members. And he's kinda right on that account. On the other hand, their flyer seems to regularly have lots of coupons for straight discounts, so I wonder if this outlook would change if they were asked. The other thing I found back 10-15 years ago when begging stores, was that they would never promote the auctions (competition). It would also be interesting to see if this has also changed! The stores were always happy to promote speakers. There are some old flyer sources in the "board archive" disks I send everyone a year or so ago. You can see one of them in the background of a photo on www.gsas.org (to the left of "sponsors" -- there's a "join GSAS" flyer, and a talk announcement on the giant geophagus head). Oh, one more piece of info... if you are making a poster and need the logo, you can grab the infinite-resolution vector graphic original at http://www.gsas.org/gsas-logo-filled.pdf - Erik On Thu, 22 Jan 2009, Shango Los wrote: > I have a very good relationship with the guys there.
