Re: [GSAS-board] Plant auction flyer

AWESOME!

The color really does make it pop out at you. I may put a portion of the
final directly on the website, if that's OK with you.

The 20-lot limit is just for sellers; I would not bother mentioning that
on the flyer.

Do we need to say AQUARIUM plant auction? I suppose if we pick up an
accidental terrestrial person, oh well.

I'm not sure we're in 118 -- thought we were in the larger room for this
one. Meredith?

---------------------- normal folks skip this part ----------------------

The plant auction has been going on as long as I've been in the club,
which is 1993. I think it started a couple years before that, so perhaps
your 17th Annual is right. Dave or Steev would know better.

But hey, I'm the club HISTORIAN, and I have two whole DVDs worth of
scanned documents at my fingertips, including old board meeting notes and
presidential docs. I can do better than that. [frantic searching for the
disk]

1989 and earlier years definitely did not have a plant auction in
February, so says the monthly newsletters. However, I have no monthly
newsletters for February 1990, 1991 and 1992.

November '89 board meeting notes say: "Feb -> ? plants ! & auction [...]
Motion to take excess of $ of Plant auction to Philanth. fund." That
would seem to imply that there was a plant auction planned in 1990. No
February 1990 notes, however.

1-18-91 board notes mention: "February Plant Auction: Paul is working with
2 plant wholesalers. All these plants come potted + in wrapped
individual. Prices are comparable with Delaware [Delaware Aquatic
Nurseries] and these seem to grow better...." Again, though, no February
or March notes indicating the auction actually took place.

December 1991 board meeting notes have this handwritten in the margin:
"Art - talk in February?" No reference to actual program, auction or no,
in 1992.

According to the notes, 1993's plant auction consisted of a $250 plant
purchase, netted $101.50, and had so many unsold plants that Amazon Pet
Place (Woodinville, RIP) purchased the remaining stock for $190. Yipes!

So hmm, if it really started in 1990, that would make this year the
TWENTIETH annual plant auction. Clay or Dave S, you were presidents
during this time, do you remember holding the plant auction pre-Lenny
Long?
