So I'm back from the Northeast Council Workshop. Good convention. 12 talks (taped 11 of them for their library -- planning on doing my usual post-production treatment, though not as intensely as GSAS or AGA talks). A couple may make good "can't find a speaker this month" video fill-ins. 1) Ole Pedersen from the University of Copenhagen goes and determines by precise experiment exactly HOW effective various algae eaters are at doing their job -- comes to the conclusion that 1 Amano shrimp per gallon is required to keep a tank clear. 2) A fellow from the New England Aquarium does a great thumbnail overview of various fish conservation efforts, from Reef repopulation, Lake Victoria stuff (that Lawrence touched on a little at our meeting) to Project Piaba. Much is of course very sad and depressing, but it does end with dancing Brazilians dressed as stylized discus and cardinal tetras. Second thing; An e-tailer was selling bags, so I bought 300 plant specimen-sized bags (3" and 4" x 18"), figuring the club could probably use them in future auctions. They were just so darned convenient-looking for stem plants and small fish, and cheap, $5/100. I will bring them to the auction. - Erik -- Erik Olson erik at thekrib dot com _______________________________________________ GSAS-board mailing list GSAS-board@thekrib.com http://lists.thekrib.com/mailman/listinfo/gsas-board
