If it's still Frank, he's always been pretty crusty, but never viewed the club as competition to the stores. He had specific ideas of how stores, specifically his, should support the club: never discounts to individual members ("that just supports individual members"), but usually a donation to the auction ("because that actually benefits the club"). Likewise, he was interested in purchasing advertising space in the newsletter at one point, but it never panned out.
