If it's still Frank, he's always been pretty crusty, but never viewed the 
club as competition to the stores.  He had specific ideas of how stores, 
specifically his, should support the club: never discounts to individual 
members ("that just supports individual members"), but usually a donation 
to the auction ("because that actually benefits the club").  Likewise, he 
was interested in purchasing advertising space in the newsletter at one 
point, but it never panned out.  That's too bad they won't donate...
