[GSAS-board] FW: BOB the giant loach

Hey guys, below is a conversation I had with Mike, the guy who got Bob from Margie after the auction.  Poor fish didn’t survive the trip home, and the kid’s out his $70, I can’t blame him for looking for some way to help defray that cost.

As the proceeds of the sale went into the general club coffers (minus my split, of course), and he appears not to want my “replacement fish”, he’s asking if he can get some Auction Bucks or credit towards his membership or some such.  Is there any precedent for something like this?  I know that last year we bought a bucket o’ random fish that carried some kind of fin rot and decimated my main tank, but we just kinda figured we were out of luck as that sometimes happens when you buy fish at an auction.  Thoughts?

Sigh, i bought bob being the biggest in hopes that his size age and matuity might help me with a fluke spawn.. they take years to mature and get his size hence why i really wanted him... not to mention who wouldnt want a fish with a name as cool as bob? im not sure how the return or exchange of such things goes with the club or with you? possible ways id be interested in fixing this is maybe credit for anouther auction, using part of what bob went for as a membership to the club, or the return/swap of bob back for what i paid for? im all ears on what to do at the moment..

>>sigh i miss him already.. and hope to see you soon... thanks again mike

Well, shit.  That sucks, dude.  We’re sad as well.  How about this: I do have Bob’s Younger Brother Bob (because ALL my fish are named Bob), an identical loach who, while not quite as big, would probably survive transport a whole lot better (and not have to spend eight hours in a cool bucket, either.)  I wanted Bob The Elder to have a bigger tank in which to play, and I was perfectly happy to keep Bob Junior in the 90gal with the other critters; but seeing as how you’ve had success breeding them, I think Bob Junior might indeed be happier with the rest of your herd.  He’s not as big – 4.5” or so – but having spent his life next to that behemoth I’m willing to bet he’s picked up a few hints on how to bulk up J

Let’s figure out how and when and we’ll meet you somewhere, and I’ll hand over Bob The Younger to your care.  Would that work?  We’re probably heading into Fremont tomorrow evening to play some board games (unless I have to work), and I’m free all morning, so we could meet you south somewhere, like by Auburn or some such.  Let me know.
