Just so you know, I’m happy to give the guy his money back, if
that’s what we need to do (or at least my portion of it anyway.) I did my best
to keep Bob going, but in the end you’re right, too many factors weighed
against him. Phil From:

Behalf Of Margaret Cashman Dear GSAS'ers, I am inclined to think we should find a way to refund to the
buyer, Mike, the purchase cost of $70 and then have the sale annulled (the
seller doesn't make $ and the club doesn't make $). This was an unusual
situation, and Bob looked pretty moribund while still at SPU. The cold, the
stress, etc. were too much. I had won the bid, but then Mike (one of the other bidders)
came up to me and talked about his 600-gallon tank replete with clown loaches
which allegedly had bred, sans artificial hormones, once already. I felt my
180-gallon clown loach spa was not as good a spot for Bob, whom I assumed was
healthy and ready to rumble, so with considerable regret I agreed to shift off
so that Mike could acquire him from the auction for the winning price. We
settled this before checking out, so Mike was the owner. Then Mike and Phil
went over to Bob's bucket. Oooh. Bob did not look in the mood for petting or,
well, anything. His tail fin was twitching a bit but he did not look, um,
healthy. So I left the premises with hopes for Bob's recovery but also one of
the better fish auction stories. I truly am sorry that Bob did not make it --
he was a spectacular fish. But Mike and I made the shift of winning bidder
before anyone knew about Bob's death spiral and also before checkout. Margie C.

Phil, OK,
since Margie isn’t involved, as the seller how would you suggest it be fairly
handled? Technically Mike bought loach from “The Club”, the other choice
would be have a board member contact Mike and make the decision. If there
are any precedents that older member may have knowledge of maybe they can
provide some suggestions Roy

The club got 40% and you received 60%. Margie then sold the loach to Mike
as a separate private transaction. Not
exactly. Margie and Mike switched the purchase at the time they checked
out, so that it didn’t ever show up on her ticket, only his. Margie
doesn’t have a stake in this one. Phil From: Seattle_Aquarist To: 'GSAS board

FW: BOB the giant loach Hi
Phil, I
agree it is a tough break, I do feel badly for the guy. Just so I have
this clear, you auctioned the Clown Loach and Margie purchased it. The
club got 40% and you received 60%. Margie then sold the loach to Mike as
a separate private transaction. The loach died on the trip home. I
think the club is a smaller player in this than Margie and yourself. I
would like to hear Margie and your views and suggestions for resolving
it. I would hope that we would all want to see this resolved fairly; how
would we like to be dealt with if we were Mike? Roy
