Re: [GSAS-board] Washington State ADA Retailer

My dive club takes the opposite approach. People can come sell stuff to the membership at a meeting, but it is regulated like this.

1. It's got to be something that the club's likely to be interested in, like dive travel or classes. Whoever is in charge of getting meeting speakers fields these requests.
2. And they only get about 10 minutes at most.

And it only happens once every few months, not every time.

IMHO one of the great things about being in a club is the buying power it can get you. If there is a guy who can get club members ADA stuff without shipping costs... that is the kind of opportunity club members should know about, somehow. I say, give that guy his 5 minutes. Sure, it benefits him, but doesn't it benefit the membership too? We all buy stuff.

My two cents.

Hi Susan,

I think that we should look at this from all points of view.  I’m concerned that this might not be an idea that our long term member / sponsor stores would appreciate.  If we let one retailer (member or not) attend a meeting to present products and take orders, shouldn’t we let all of them do the same?  If I was a long time sponsor or the club, what would my reaction be?

I am aware of this individual; he has posted the ADA product on Craigslist several times.  I believe that Kypros, one of members, has also purchased from him in the past.  I have invited him to meetings in the past (via e-mail) although I do not believe he has attended.  My initial reaction is that he is certainly welcome to attend our meetings and join, but not to invite him to attend to present products or solicit orders.

Mark Dorwood called me yesterday to tell me about Tony, who retails ADA products. No shipping! Perhaps Tony can come bring some ADA stuff to the last meeting and take orders? He might even be able to come Tuesday with a product list. What does the board think?
