I'd like to humbly suggest that maybe buying shrimp from a shop for the meeting isn't the best use of of the clubs $.
The only type of shrimp that I'd consider entry level would be cherries or yellows and we sell cherries back and forth in the club for $1 each which is wildly under the store rate of $5. The yellows sell for $8-9 in stores and we sell them within the club for $4-5.
The more rare ones that are around stores, tiger, blues, bumblebee etc I'd not consider a beginner shrimp nor do we know how to breed them successfully. The Amanos might be a good idea because they are hearty and live a long time but only if we could get them on sale from Jimmy who sells them really cheap since he breeds them himself. Paying $5ea just seems like a waste.
May I suggest that we send out a mass list email to see who has shrimp and encourage them to bring them for sale or maybe the club buys them directly from members at the friend price and then auctions/raffles them? Susan is usually inundated as is Cliff. Hiro used to have them too. I grow both but just sold a ton of both and don't have any to sell right now. Heck, I'd donate them if I had them. I will shuffle my plants around to see if I can scare any up beyond my basic breeding stock on the day of the meeting.
I did go to to A Place for Pets this weekend and picked up 8 Cuttlefish bones to donate in bags of 2 for the auction. I figure folks will want those after they hear the affect it seems to have on strength , breeding and coloration. Maybe we just have Cuttlefish bones and some shrimp food. There are some really good hand made specialty shrimp foods online that are not sold in stores. For example, the stuff I use...
