Re: [GSAS-board] Proposed email

Dear Shango & Board,

The yardstick I use is "local". I am happy to get updates forwared from
Phil of the Renton store and have personally posted the reopening of the
Little Amazon and local sales. I was even happy to anounce when Doran's
Fish Take People opened a store front down south. The only problems I
remember have been Hiro (outright sale) and LowCoaster as they are not
local. I agree that it we drop the bar to Internet, can ship, we will be
swamped. So, IMHO the question is how local is this venture? The angle of
become a major distributor, undercut local stores, does not last long. This
is why Steve will not let us do a group buy from the cichlid exchange and
why breaders are really hesitent to sell locally. On the otherhand there
are a number of placed that hunt for common items locally and sell nice
packages. I am thinking driftwood from CA (It Grows On Trees!) and
regulators from Rex as he uses a group buy to get around $50 min order
restrictions. So if the site stocks NW specific items with fast/cheap
shipping I am all for it.

On a side note, Jeff looks like he will be spamming his stocking lists for
African fish. When does this become a problem?

-Paul

And I reaffirm my position that trying to rule something as detailed as this
by Committee is setting us up for grief. Sure, this request seems harmless
enough but it does set a precedent. NEXT time someone asks we will have to
explain to whomever why they are different than this guy. Not that we
couldn't do it, but we would have to.

I suggest we hold firm at no advertising allowed or flip it and say any
advertising is allowed (which would be a killer).

It isn't like he can't get feedback from other sources. He could also post
an email saying if folks are interested in helping him with his site to
contact him off list. That sounds reasonable.

I agree he sounds friendly and the offer is non-threatening. The future
annoyances is what I am aware of.
