OK, that sounds like fun!  I need more buckets....  time to hit the local bakeries!

Adopt-A-Stream?  Say more!  I would love to learn how to identify stuff in the local ponds.  I need to do another scoop though; seems like a fresh sample is in order for something like that.  The original bucket I grabbed is going through a very messy leaf-decaying stage or something; hard to see anything in it any more, but there are still a few things cruising around.  It is not very green though; might be why things have died off.  AND, Steevs explanation about the hydra liking the daphnia makes sense; maybe the darn hydra ate everything I originally scooped!  Rotten hydra.  I read somewhere there is a fish that thinks the hydra are delicious; time to seek out some of those!  If I can only remember what they were or where I read that....

UM, I confess I have been very lazy about identifying plants properly, but I do know I have the following:  cabombas, doing marginally well; mexican oak leaf, doing amazingly well; cryptocorn of some variety, doing pretty well; four or five other unidentified stem plants, also doing pretty well; a few corkscrew vals, doing marginally well; and several unidentified ferns, doing reasonably well, in my tanks.  There are others, but all the rest I have gotten at the mini auctions or directly from club members, so stuff everyone already has anyway.  I at least know what most of them are thanks to you all though - java moss, najas grass, water lettuce, watersprite, the dreaded duckweed, jungle val, riccia, hornwort...  

I still don't know what that variegated plant is that came from your gudgeon tank Susan.  I really like it though, and it loves my tanks!  Unfortunately the snails love it as much as I do, so some of the leaves have that snail-induced lacey look.  ;+)

If we are talking about plants I can share, the Mexican Oak Leaf I have a ton of, & maybe a few cabombas sprigs, but that is probably all I have to spare so far; all the rest are still growing out from the original stocks.  Hopefully I will have more by the picnic!  My tanks are pretty young; most of them got started in early June, but so far so good.

  them) and some small water beetles.

  20-gallon Metaframe has a metal frame, and older style aquarium. What kind
  of plants do you have? I have Rubin and other swords, Water Hyacinth, Riccia
  and Bolbitus.

  I am curious about the answer to Shangos question though; I scooped a bucket
  from that lagoon at Golden Gardens about three weeks ago, and was amazed at
  the variety of critters in it.  The first thing I noticed was a LOT of weird
  whitish extending wormlike things, which after some research I think are the
  dreaded hydra!  Hopefully a high daphnia population crowds out anything else
  unwanted.
