[GSAS-Member] Blue-Green Algae: Recap

So I'm on the other end of my blackout period. I have to say that it did seem to work at first, but not a really huge success in the end.

I have read that this bacteria can be caused by a variety of things including: wrong color light, not enough O2, buildup of organic material, low water flow. So, before I blacked out the tank I gave everything a good scrub and water change, cleaned all the filters, and vacuumed the gravel. Then I added a secondary HOB filter for better water flow and turned up the air-stone in the sponge filter.

After 3 days of dark in the tank 95% of the slime had turned brown and "dry". There was still just a little bit on the tips of the plants that looked green, but everything else was flaking off the plants and walls.

It's been about 5 days now since then, and it's starting to come back. The sponge filter is covered by green again, and I'm getting patches growing in the plants on the top. So, I think now it's finally time for a dose of antibiotics. Can anybody recommend a source? I suppose I could just order from the pharmacy online that supplies all the Viagra... but somewhere local would be better.

Cheers,

Jesse
