[GSAS-Member] Amazon Sword Question

Hello.  I have a plant question that I'm hoping someone might be able to help with.  I bought a Amazon Sword plant at the auction last month and it is doing quite well.  So well that a branch has shot most of the way across my 55 gallon tank, from one end of the tank up to the surface and across the surface of the water.  This branch has buds every 6-9 inches.  The last few buds on this branch have leaves now coming out of them.
 
I'm curious what I should do.  Can I trim this back and safely plant the buds with the leaves to create new plants?  Or should I just leave it alone.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks.
