RE: Looking for dead shoplights

Erik,

Did you want to make a canopy for one of your tanks for our next General
Meeting? I can help if you and I can get together to discuss what it is you
would like to have. I would need the exterior dimensions of the tank you
wish to put it on and what type of filtration equipment is hanging off the
back. I was thinking of doing a canopy similar to the ones on two of my
tanks (100 gal and 55 hex), if you are interested. I was thinking we could
do this in addition to you explaining the lighting requirements in the
tanks. But, for me to help, I should start immediately in order to do a
decent job with it all. If you would rather do something else, that is fine
too. I just want to make sure we cover how to mount the lights and all.

Subject: Looking for dead shoplights

This is an unusual request, but I'm looking for dead shoplights,
specifically the ones made by "Lights of America" and sold locally here
for many years. These are unique in that (a) they are very lightweight,
(b) the reflector portion extends over the tube, and (c) they have very
cheap electronic ballasts, predisposing them to die after a year or two of
use.

Maybe you've got one or more of these gathering dust in your garage while
you wait to throw it out. I'll come by and save you the trouble!

Why am I looking for them? We just revamped our fishroom, and have
replaced most of our "rain gutter" fixtures with these; I rip out all the
electronics, keep the carcase, and hook them up to remote ballasts.

Thanks!

  - Erik
