Re: Angel Eggs Anyone?

My LFS angels are currently doing a fine job raising over 100 babies, and I wasn't wanting to breed either. Stuck them in a community tank with lots of plants and 3 days later I have a couple hundred eggs. . If you take the eggs away from your pair, they will probably just make more. You might be in for an angel bonanza either way. Are there other fish in the tank? The parents can get territorial and kill them, although mine hatched and reared a spawn with a couple dozen killifish in the tank with no problems, other than predation by the killies. Raising hundreds of angel babies is going to be a huge space issue too, I don't have room for all these babies... You can feed angel fry BBS, and below is a link on raising their eggs. I too just recently got into angels and didn't think they would spawn, and 3 days later... They spawned again right away when I took their babies away so you might have to figure out a long term strategy with them. I put mine in a 26 tall show tank with a ton of plants and am making them raise the babies, so they will be too busy to spawn weekly. So far so good.
Good luck!

Hi Susan,

I live in Renton, a few blocks from exit #4 off I-405. A little bit of a drive, but I guess some people do it every day. :-)

I'll be out of town for most of tomorrow, visiting my grandmother, but I expect to be home in the evening. (And home all day Friday.) The female angel seems to be doing a good job of guarding the eggs. I don't know how long it usually takes for them to hatch. (This is my first pair.)

Subject: Angel Eggs Anyone?

Hi Everyone,

I just noticed that my pair of angels has covered an anubius leaf with eggs! This is in a community tank, so it's hard for me to imagine that the fry will survive.

I'm too busy to set up a nursery tank and raise the fry, but if anyone wants to give it a try, I'd be happy to prune off the leaf and hand it over. :-)

Jeff
