Re: Enumclaw Storm

Speaking of neons and disasters.... the day before the Nisqually earthquake my neons lost their color. Recovered afterwards. Anyone else see anything like this or was it a coincidence? Always wondered. We missed the whole thing down here in Oly but it made me remember the importance of having a backup source of power for my nano reef tank. Anyone using the Uninteruptible Power Supply "UPC" unit during storms? I don't think it will power a ton of stuff for long but it will keep a 4 watt pump going. In my case I would be firing up a 25watt heater until all 3 of our UPC's give up. Learned something from the reef people that we might be able to use. If you have a tank of fish that are not getting enough O2 at night you can put a wad of plants in a big power filter with a light on it (no cartridges obviously) and light it up at night. Does this sound like a good theory? I prefer to not stock so heavily that this is a concern but I can see anyone with large fish running into this issue. I have a huge refugium on a 10 gallon nano tank with a 24 hour light on it, the macroalgae is pearling. The other advantage-no new tank syndrome so far. Course that could be coming soon...

Have a great holiday party, I enjoyed last year's event but have to work til 6 in Chehalis so can't make it.

Thankyou also.

Yes her goldies I knew would be fine...but wasn't sure
about my Africans.....but all are fine happy...and no
"ick". Even the guppies, and neons made it! Didn't
loose any fish at all. The temp got down to 70
degrees, on the 55 {africans}, and the 30 for the
goldies. And also 70 degrees on the 125 with africans
as well. BUT the 90 gallon got only down to 75, it was
in where the wood stove was, so this is why it was
warmer....Normally my african tanks are at 82
degrees.....Just glad their were no casualties!

See You Tuesday at the party!

My Trish, what an adventure.
Emma's goldfish, of course, won't care about getting
a little cold but you
might keep eye on the others for Ich developing.
See you at the party.

Hello everyone-

Just wanted to let you all know we made it through
the storm here in Enumclaw....

We were one of the lucky ones to live here in
Enumclaw with the sorm that went though. But we
very
fortunate to not have any damage to our house! The
only damage we had was to our fence, and trees. We
lost 6 of them. But trees can be replaced, and a
life
can not. So we look at ourselves as very fortunate
with this. We were without power for 2
days......but
we were fine. When we built our home, I didn't
want a
fireplace, I had a wood stove and wanted to use
that....so this was our heat. For food we had
peanut
butter and jelly sandwiches, and chicken soup,
wich I
cooked on the wood stove. Also heated up water for
cocoa.....

I was very worried about my fish, but they all
made
it through just fine! 2 days withought any filter,
air, heat, or food.....and they all made it! I am
very
hapy about that....

Friday we got our power back on, and boy is it
nice
to have it back!

Take care everyone, and see you Tuesday!

Trish
