Re: L. ocellatus

I sold some Neolamprologus multifasciatus, and those were what you saw in the shells. But ocellatus is another great species to breed. Aaron Frymire.

Hi again,

We've bred ocellatus. They're fun! Not too difficult, just keep in
regular tanganyika conditions (hard water, temp 77-80). We use shallow
tanks for our shell-dwellers (like 20-longs) with sand (home depot sand)
on the bottom, maybe 1" deep, and an assortment of shells for them to
choose. We sometimes substitute PVC "els" with caps for the shells, as
you can dismantle them when bringing fish to sell.

I missed seeing ocellatus, but do remember watching a colony of L.
(actually N.) multifasciatus go. They're cool too, but totally different
looking.

A few years ago we had the distinguished Dr. Peter Lewis talk at our club,
and his whole presentation was on Tanganyika shell-dwellers. The talk is
in our library in VHS form, soon to be supplemented with DVDs (coming to
the GSAS library near you). It is unfortunately the only way you can see
this talk as Dr. Lewis unexpectedly passed away in 2002.
