If no fish are present the flukes will die off fairly quickly, so why not just
set the tank up with the plants but no fish for a week or so? You can keep the
fish in a hospital tank and treat them more effectively (that's what hospital
tanks are for). Just don't overdo the medication. Cardinals and rummynose
are pretty delicate. But if you use moderate medication and keep the hospital
tank clean the flukes should go away.
There is rarely any need to bake the gravel. Even gill fluke eggs die when they
are simply dried up (as Untergasser would say).
