What cardinals go through to get from South America to your fishtank is
horrendous. They are roughly handled and are subject to crowded shipping
and crazy temperature fluctuations.
With that being said, I find cardinals to be one of the hardiest aquarium
fishes.
When they are received by the store, and immediate tetrid dosage must be
administered. I find that they need to be at the store for about a week.
After the week, the weakest ones will die off. The other important thing is
they should be in a planted tank with cover at the store and where they go.
If these things are done, they are often extremely hardy!
