Re: Tropheus Duboisi/dieing
Did you mean 0 nitrites? If so, what is your nitrate reading? Was the tank
fully cycled before you added them? Tropheus don't handle the cycling process
well at all. Definitely do 30% water changes daily until your readings are 0
ammonia, and 0 nitrites, with a low nitrate reading. If your fish are still
eating, food soaked in garlic and or metronidazole can drastically improve
their chances of survival. At the Cichlid-forum, the accepted treatment for
bloat is Clout, dosed full strength, as soon as the problem is noticed. If you
wait a few days before trying it, the blockage in their gut is usually septic
and the progression through dropsy usually ensues. Changes in diet can also
cause bloat for them, not just the presence of all veggie matter. Basically
they have a long intestinal tract, much like horses, and any change needs to be
tempered with food their gut is already used to, or you can cause blockages.

Subject: Tropheus Duboisi/dieing
Hi everyone-
Not sure who can help me with this one, but whoever
can, please respond ASAP.
In March/April I had purchased 22 baby Duboisi.
Everything was going along great, all happy, eating,
settling in nicley in a 90 gallon, with only them, and
6 baby yellow labs, 2 clown loaches. All was great
until now about 2 weeks ago, they started acting
different. As in acting lethargic, scraping against
rocks, and not eating as vigoriously.
I feed spirilina flakes, romain lettuce, and frozen
pease. So only veggie matter. All is excepted.
Water changes once a week of 60%. Chemicals used are,
Amguel,Novaqua, aquarium salt. Ph tests out at 7.8, 0
amonia,0 niterates. Filter is a fluval 404, in the
filter for media, I use carbon, filter floss, and
those ceramic stones it comes with. Substrate sand.
Have lost a total of 8 fish in all, with 4 being just
last night.
Am going to do another water change, even though one
was just done Saturday morning....not sure of what
else to do. All other fish are fine, even have one of
the yellow labs holding. The only ones which are
acting different are the Duboisi.
Any information, or suggestions would be great.
Thanks in advance,
Trish
