Ok, I just had another proof of my bad vision today. This morning when I
went downstairs I found a crow perched on the lip of a bowl of baby
nothos (killifish). Yes, a crow, and to top it off he's been in the fish
room several days. Thought I felt a whoosh by my head, but couldn't see
anything, must have been him flying by. I have no peripheral vision at
all and black birds don't flush out of dark corners unless they think
you are about to get them, so he probably just hunkered down in a corner
while I worked in the room. Boy must he have had a good time, all the
premium grade bird seed... plenty of water... and I feed the birds
hardboiled eggs and sprouts which frequently get left out on the table
to acclimate to room temperature. (cold food bad for birds)
So I guess it's time for everyone to check their window wells for
fledgling birds, toads, salamanders, and other stray wildlife. They get
in and get stuck, if they are not lucky enough to have the window opened
they just die... I remember back home when I was a kid we would find
about a dozen crispy critters in each window well when we checked.
Mostly amphibeans.
