I was talking with a number of folks about the teeny little fish I picked up recently for one of my smaller tanks. Those of us who can't really do the big tanks are always on the hunt for little gems for our smaller biotopes <G>. Anyway, these fish have really colored up nicely for me on newly hatched mosquito larvae. They are about 1/2" in length, are often gold in the retail stores but color up to a reddish orange for me. They have a orange irridescent line above the black length-wise line. I think they are a bit more flashy than the Boraras maculata. I hope to try some B. brigittae soon as well. I have them in a well-planted tank 10 g with some wild-type honey gouramis and they don't always school, but scatter about in the plants. Anyway, for those who want to look them up they are Boraras urophthalmoides. Some older references may still have them as Rasbora urophthalmoides. Common (retail store) name - exclamation point rasbora for the black line along the body with black dot on tail. We'll see how they do with Dario dario as I hope to have an order come in (hopefully with some females) this week!
