[GSAS-Member] Lake Washington Plants
Hi Everyone:
I think the fancy plant we collected was Potamogeton crispus. It needs lots of
fertilizer but can grow in any pH. It may grow flatter leaves in the aquarium.
Usually grows in thick layers of fine mud. Will survive the winter as long as
it stays below the ice. The other plant probably Vallisneria americana. The
varianted "Marmor" has brown streaked leaves and "Rubra" has reddish brown
leaves with dark veins. If it is a Val, the leaves have slight saw-toothed
tips on the edges. Feel with your fingers. The "Star-Grass" looks like Najas
indica, which hopefully isn't right, because that's a SE Asian plant. Any ideas
from anyone else?
Susan
