I guess I should take responsibility for this entire iodine crustacean 
rumor thing getting out of hand. I read on the internet somewhere (AZ 
Aquatic Gardens)  that you* need *to use iodine with shrimp a few years 
back, so I started doing it. Advertisement for selling iodine is what it 
probably was, they have taken the NEED part out of their site and just 
mention the iodine now. Since then I have bred several generations of 
common feeder shrimp so assumed adding the iodine was relevant, since 
this isn't often done. Ad for iodine for shrimp mentions reproduction 
and hatch rate being improved.
That said, since starting this thread on the GSAS list I have found 
Amano and Red Crystal Shrimp that have never been dosed with iodine 
reproducing and moulting. So.... am assuming the iodine thing is just 
another gimmick to sell yet another product you don't need.

On the plus side I have 3 species of baby shrimp in the fishroom now, 
lost the amanos though. I am also raising baby marine shrimp. Since I 
already have the iodine I am continuing to use it... Don't believe 
everything you read on websites, and maybe not everything you read on 
chat lists either especially if it was written after midnight. :)
