My tank has a case of ich that The Fish Store is now calling "Super Ich." They say it came out of South America about six months ago, and infected a Florida fish farm before spreading pretty widely throughout the industry. They said they had to call in a fish pathologist to get rid of it themselves, that they were at their wits end for about a month, though they say they have it under control now. From what I've observed, this strain is especially virulent, and the white dotsthe fish get are a little bit larger and more widespread than normal. Two weeks of rid-ich didn't touch it. It still looks like untreated ich. Three days of quinine seemed to knock it down a little bit. I've now moved on to rid-ich in combination with copper sulfate and more quinine, after losing two big clown loaches and a beautiful, beautiful big old bosemani rainbow--the king of my tank. I have raised the temperature, I've done three water changes, I've run a diatom filter, I've constantly dosed with rid-ich, and have now run a course of quinine and copper safe. I've got about 2/3rds of fish looking OK and 1/3 still looking pretty unhappy. I simply cannot think of anything else other than more of the same. The Fish store advises the trio treatment for at least 21 days, that it takes that long to run its course. Has anyone else run into this?
