Kate,

I am using a combination of other lights with the Actinic light so there
is enough light to keep the plants growing too.  The Actinic by itself
would most likely not support much in my tanks either.....and the tanks
would be very dark as well.

I might not have done it right, I did the retrofit thing the club demo'd

with A&H supply stuff. Two 13 watt combo bulbs. Maybe you guys are using

bigger bulbs? The little ones give off almost no visible light, just a 
pale blue. Plants all slowly died, algae took over.
