  Kate, if you have lots of floating plants like water lettuce I'm sure that
  you will get fry. I once had a 55 gal tank covered with water lettuce. There
  were lots of fish including green fire tetras. I got lots of them. Usually I
  would notice them when they were about 1/4 inch long. You should try it!
