Soooooo, here we go....found a great site on fish diseases and the
threat of host contamination(yeah, that means you and me catching
something fishy from our pets). Hope this helps answer the issue of
fish causing people diseases.....yes, there are a couple things we can
contract from our pets. They are rare, yes.......they have to be
ingested in all the scenarios I read. They have to be ingested on fish
that is not cooked as well. So, I guess the lesson here is don't eat
your pets??? Anyway, the website link is:
http://www.mass.gov/czm/wpfshlth.htm and one more:
http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/sf/broc/fhinfo/fhinfo03.html
Hope that helps some,
Clay

I have kept aquariums most of my life, and this raises a question I
have
often wondered about. Are there common aquarium diseases/parasites
that are a
threat to aquarists? Not only the occasional slurp of water from the
siphon,
but how about hands with cuts, etc...
I assume wild-caught would be a greater risk if there are aquatic
parasites
that also infect humans?

Help. My killifish has this totally gross worms hanging out of her
butt. I have Praziquantel, which I am mixing in with the food, since
the do want to eat, and put a copper-based medication in the water.
Does anyone know where I can find Levimisole Hydrochloride? I'm sure
the other killies have it too. God, I hope I don't have it, after
starting the siphon a few times!!!
