Re: [GSAS-Member] Camallanus cotti

Oops, sorry, didn't mean to send this to the whole list.
Well you read my last email now you know to save your receipts and warranties... (:

Discomed is levamisol, salt, piperazine, magnesium sulfate, and Neomycin sulfate. Yeah, figures the company with the good meds goes out of business. Now we are stuck with fake stuff like "fungus clear" or bacter-vital or all the other "miracle cures". I am so burned out on fish after working at the fish store, I am getting to the point where I am wondering why I bother and wanting to get rid of them. It sucks. Day in day out all I do is work on fish and get electric shocks and find out that more and more of what I buy and sell is complete crap or otherwise suspect. You would not believe how many expensive products out there are total bunk or made so cheaply they are not expected to work for a year. Heaters, lights, filters, pumps, the industry expects them to all break down and counts on the consumer not keeping receipts or warranties and having to constantly buy new stuff. Bought a $130 pump for my marine tank, turns out the impeller is metal. After 2 months its got so much rust on it that the housing is worn and it was getting slow. Salt for the aquarium is totally off in terms of chemistry-too much calcium and not enough ph buffer. Killed one guy's tank completely, all the coral and the fish, I was lucky and noticed so am adding buffers every few hours which don't work as well as the package says so I have to do a lot of testing with kits that are not all accurate... and I bought another brand of salt only to find that it has toxic levels of ammonia in it. Lovely. And we are selling sick fish in both marine and freshwater which is normal for the industry. We got ich in both and brooklynella in marine. Bad stuff. Can't do shit about it in a pet store. Sucks. I don't really like the whole industry now that I have seen it from the inside. I want to quit but Ben doesn't want me to because then what would I do? I can't see the fish all that well so catching them is hard too. Sorry to bitch, am in a bad mood. Hate days like this. I was going to quit today but Casey bashed his hand all up and needs me. It's always something.

What does Discomed have in it besides Levamisole? Is that it? No wonder I haven't been able to find it. Aquatronics was a good line of stuff. Too bad.

I thought that Discomed was no longer available since Aquatronics closed.
It
does have Levamisole in it. I'm not surprised that the expired stuff still works, but that's nice to know. It's a shame that there is so much expired
stuff
out there. In many cases you can judge it by the dust on the package.

Levamisol also has Neomycin in it (if I remember correctly) which ages
poorly.
Still, I would be inclined to buy some Discomed if I found some, since
they're
not making it anymore. It might be nice to have on hand even if it was past
the
recommended use date.

I haven't tried Praziquantel on Camallanus but I will if I ever find any
more
fish that have it. I used Praziquantel on some Corydoras metae that had a
similar worm infection but it didn't seem to help.

I'll be interested to hear how Susan does with her new Levamisole bolus.

I bought discomed for this condition, it was expired as of May 2000 and
I got it a week ago. Go figure. Tried it on some angels with obvious
camallanus and they appear to have expelled the worms despite the
expired meds being moist, discolored, stuck to the capsule and basically
being in a condition that kind of ..........
