RE: [GSAS-Member] Hole-in-the-Head Disease -- need advice

Be careful feeding small fish medicated food. I lost some brichardis that
way. I think some are more sensitive than others. I think the normal dose of
antibiotics is 250 mg per five gallons of water. I would still use the
Maracide, in addition to the vitamins. I don't think it will hurt the fish
or your beneficial bacteria.

If there is any way you can give the rams a home of their own, that would be
the best, since they will be territorial with any fish. I can give you some
vinegar eels and microworm starters. You will be sure to have people who
want rams, and pet stores too. I have heard that they are difficult to
breed, so if you can do it, that is a feather in your cap!

One additional thought. I've read that Flagyl is the appropriate drug to
treat hex. I happen to be on a prescription of that now. Is there any way
I can calculate an appropriate dose for my tank, and mayhaps slip it into
their bloodworms?

I like that approach, nicely low tech, though I'll have to buy some
multi-vitamins.
How much salt would I put into a 40 gal tank, and will that harm the
plants in any way?

    Anita-

I also have hole in the head {very early stages} on 3
of my small VC10's, in my 125 gallon.....I was able
to recognize this right away. For have dealt with this
before on larger cichlids.I am doing what Steve Ward
had suggested, to me ....he said do lots of water
    changes{which I do anyway's, 50% weekly} and also give
2 multi vitamins every other day to my 125 gallon.
AND I have to say with consitancy, I have noticed the
holes shrinking! I also switched to Marine Salt for
    the extra minerals.

So Steve your theory does work! But the key is being
consistant! I am also now doing this on my 90 gallon
    just as a precaution.

    I hope this helps some!
