Be careful when using oyster shell as a buffer. It compacts very
quickly in a tank if used as a substrate. This compaction makes it
difficult to clean the tank effectively if you are using much of it. I
would suggest either using it in your filter in a bag, or mixing it
50/50 or less with gravel.

Most feed stores sell oyster shell gravel (ground up shell) as a
supplement
for chickens try Lande feed in maple valley or Dels in auburn. Lande
has a
delivery service and you should be able to get large amounts.
