a smaller heater for heating to the warmer temperature, something that would take a long time to heat the water. Maybe even a 50 watt heater. The difference between the slow heatup and achieving a temp. change by doing a water change is the rapidity of the change in temp. You'll really have something to write about if you learn that you don't need to do so much work to breed them. It is worth a try, since you
can try it the other, water change, method next. Well, I'll be most interested in your results. John On Feb 27, 2005, at 10:27 PM, auntie.fran@netzero.net wrote:
I just might give that a try! Especially since I'm going to be using two E-J heaters, a 150W and a 200W in this tank :)Growing old is inevitable; growing up is optional. -- John Ruhland <john@drruhland.com> wrote: With no experience to suggest this idea, what about setting one heater to the lower temperature, and then adding a second heater on a timer, and having the second heater at the 6 or so degrees warmer temperature. I'd have it the warmer heater go on in the AM, since the changes in temperature could be attributed to shallow water heating up in the daytime. I've watched huge catfish spawn near where my parents kept a sailboat, many years ago. It was in VERY shallow water, whose temperature must have changed throughout the day. I've been told by a friend who breeds zebra plecos that they're more inclined to spawn following a water change that lowers the tank temp by 5 to 7 degrees. We shall see. The gauntlet is down! Is there any way to recycle water to avoid the waste of so much heated water? Maybe a better filtration system. 30% water changes every other day adds up to be a lot of water. Nothing like a challenge to get the blood flowing.Well, I've *finally* decided what to do with that 70G tank that's been sitting empty in my living room since September 25. Yep, three months! It's not that I'm all that indecisive, but that we moved on September 23, then came Thanksgiving, then Christmas, then hubby's hip replacement surgery. And now...drum roll, please...Fran has decided to set this tank up for five or six L102 (Snowball) Plecos in anattempt to breed them. Any and all suggestions, recommendations, andweb sites are appreciated.
