Sounds interesting.  I would agree that many N.A. species are as
attractive and interesting as tropicals.  However, the requirements to
maintain these fish is substantially different.  Especially in terms of
maintaining water temperatures, from what I have seen.  Unless we are
talking about fish from the deep south or Hawaii (Hmmmm, is Hawaii
considered part of North America???)
