Re: [GSAS-Member] Malaysian Trumpet Snails (MTS)

After my initial concern after my snail population grew apparently exponentially, Susan calmed my fears that they would eat my plants. I now don't make any effort to control the snail population. I do have one small loach, who may be keeping the population in check, but overall, I see no sign of them taking over. The do not eat my plants, only keep them clean. They seem to carefully detail the plants, just as someone would detail a car.

While I'm not sure what type of snails they are (there are at least two species), I'd like to encourage people to keep snails.

They are in my community tank with fairly soft water, and are doing fine. I think they need a little hardness at least to get the minerals to build their shells.

I've been offered a bunch of these guys and I *think* I want them. It's
my understanding that they eat detritus but NOT plants? If that's true,
that's a positive. What, if any, are the negatives? Thanks, people! I
know you can help me :)
