Re: [GSAS-Member] Anubus / Other Low light plants

Hi Al. I think it would help to increase your light by leaving them all on for 12 hours, and maybe even adding more light. What kind of lights are you using?

Hello All:

Anyone have any Anubus or other low light plants that they are interested in
selling or trading for?

My tank is pretty deep (72" L x 24" D x 32" H) so particularly large
specimens would be better. I have 4 x 96 watt bulbs on a 12 hour cycle but
most of the time I only have 2 of the 4 running at one time, with an overlap
of 2 hours or so with all 4 on at the same time. Perhaps I need to have all
the lights on most of the time given the depth of the tank (32"). Any
thoughts about this anyone?

I also am using a wet-dry filter which may be disapating the water's CO2 and
not helping the plants (but the fish are pretty happy).

Also I'd be interested in hearing if the local aqua-gardeners that use the
Seattle water supply for their tanks, find it necessary to put addittives
into the water in order to get plants to grow (ex. iron, potassium etc)? The
only thing that I have been using is some crushed coral in the sump which
keeps the water PH at a rock solid 7.0 pH. The substrate is plain gravel and
I do not wish to use laterite (too much work with a tank this size).

I have not had much luck with growing anything in my tank except for the
anabus which isn't really thriving either. Even Java Fern didn't do well as
the new leaves would bud but never grow large and the plants would
eventually die.

Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Al
