Re: [GSAS-Member] I finally got Altum angels!

Hi Bob, Thanks!! I would love to see the article if you find it, but please don't go through any trouble looking for it. You are more then welcome to come see them since I think we are almost neighbors (I am on 34th and Findlay). I haven't put any fish with them since I am not sure if they have diseases, but I guess a few dither fish wouldn't hurt. Good idea! Someone from another list recommended adding a few corys too. They are actually not as shy as I was expecting, but they do all hang out together and never venture far without the whole group. It has been about 32 hours since they have been in my tank, and I am really hoping for the best. I read if they make it past 3 months they will probably be fine. They have quite an appetite. :) Thanks! They are SO beautiful!

Monica

Hi Monica, and congratulations!
Altums are beautiful fish. I have had mine for about four years. They like very low PH and warm temp. - 80 or above. Mine were very shy and easily spooked when they were younger, and I found that putting a few "dither fish" in their tank was helpful in getting them to relax and eat. I have a TFH article on altums stashed away someplace. If you like, I can try to find it and make you a copy.

I am so excited! I finally got Altum angelfish! I got the last 6 at my favorite fish store in West Seattle. They have been trying to order some for me for about a month but kept getting shipments that were delayed at the airport, causing them to die. They ordered 10 yesterday and I got 6. They are VERY nice looking fish, and I am trying to take great care that most of them survive. The man it King's discus gave me some info long beforehand, and told me only about 20% survive. These have already been through a 3 month quarantine (and I am quarantining them), so hopefully the survival rate will be higher. Does any one have any tips on keeping them? I have learned that they need a low PH (I have it at 6.4 right now and am trying to gradually lower it), higher temps (I have it at 81 and am going to raise it to 84 gradually), and lots of privacy. I have them in a 40g tank by themselves with plants. I have wanted Altums ever since I saw the amazing fish at King's discus, so I am very excited. I took some pics of them if anyone wants to see. Sorry... they aren't the best quality photos. I am keeping the lights off on their tank, and the room lighting very dim so that it won't be stressful.
