Susan- IF I remember correctly for sexing them, the male will have a longer black point in the middle of his tail fin. And his dorsal fin will be higher. We just lost the Emperor Tetra we have had for several years. I had something going through this tank, and it wiped out almost all the fish. I had bought some guppies, and am affraid it came with them...{yes I know I should have quarintiend them, but didn't have a spare tank}, whatever it was it wiped out most of this tank......not all the fish, but all the guppies I had, pluse the new ones, and even a few tetras. The large gourami is ok, as well as the do jo loaches{3 of them}, also the corry's, and albino bushy nose. I did a bit of research and it seemed to be "guppy disease}, but am not sure.....whatever it was, it seems to be cleared up now.
