Re: [GSAS-Member] Glow Fish



Although "glow" fish may be similar to other ornamental fish, I like to look at least a little into the future. What are possibilities for Frankenfish and other manifestations of genetic engineering. Since the focus here is on fish, the first one that came to mind as a problem is adding a gene that changes a fish's order in the foodchain. A plecostomus with shark teeth? Maybe not, yet there inevitably will be changes that will eliminate some naturally occurring species. "Glow" fish are just the first water molecule at the very tip of the iceberg. I prefer the cautious way many Europeans are proceeding. It goes back to looking both ways before crossing the street.
