Hi Frank: At least two of the six fish turned into males, so if you would like to auction them, please do! I am seeing lots of twitching, chasing and tail flutterings and the peaceful herd has turned into some really bizarre but interesting stuff! -----Original Message----- From: Frank Tomko [mailto:kpnfish@yahoo.com] Sent: Saturday, April 01, 2006 8:56 AM To: SUSAN WELENOFSKY Subject: RE: Ameca splendens I'll bring them with me on auction night. If you want them sooner, let me know. Thanks! SUSAN WELENOFSKY <welenofsky@comcast.net> wrote: Hi Frank: Yes, they are great fish, always schooling and at the front of the tank. They also seem to eating my hair algae. I have them in with discus and Emperor tetras, and they are all doing great, no one is picking on anyone, a nice balance. Yes, I will be happy to take the rest of the gang. They've always been one of my favorites and it's the specie that I've been keeping the longest. I had a thriving colony of them for about 5 yrs. until something happened last summer and the 55 gal tank they were in crashed and I lost all but 2 babies of them. Those two, luckily, were a pair and just started breeding. All of yours are from that first litter. I still have 6 or 8 more from that spawn with their parents. Since they seem to be doing well for you, how would you like to take all of them off my hands? Parents and remaining 6 or 8 young. My fish room is getting very overcrowded and I'd love to free up another tank. Since I know they would be going to a good home, I don't mind giving them up at this point. I have a lot going on this summer and will be out of town several times so I really need to cut back on the hobby for now. I'm going to sell most of my Malawi cichlids at the auction too. Your A. splenden fry are probably still too young to be sex-able. Males don't develop the split anal fin until later. Also, males are smaller and have darker markings on the dorsal fin and tail. Do you have them in with other tank mates? I've kept them with tiny Endlers before with no problem. They are very peaceful unless you have too many males together then one male will become dominate and chase the other males.
