I use Botia striata (zebra loaches), which are readily available, not too pricey, and don't get too large. They do a great job on snails in my tanks. They like company so I'd put 2-3 together....and I've never seen any larger than roughly 3". Although I think clown loaches are gorgeous, I have to stay away from them myself as they get too large for my tanks.
