All right Linda! Good thing Kate Breimeyer gave me those batches! Woo hooo - The little wigglers like the vinegar eels. I started cultures of the micro-worms and vinegar eels and saved some to feed. The ram babies are cute little bug eyed critters right now. I put a couple squirts of washed eels into the tank by the nest and the babies got really excited. At first I was afraid the papa was eating the ones that swam up to get some eels but then I realized he was grabbing them and spiting them back into the nest area. He has been a very devoted parent so far. Here is what has happened so far. They laid the eggs and about 3 days later I came back to what looked like a dead nest site with a few egg shells. But then I realized that the parents had moved the eggs down - looking closer I realized they had wigglers in the new nest site. A couple days later they moved the kids to another spot up in amongst the java moss. I've been worried about what I was going to feed them when the egg sacs gave out although they have a lot of java moss critters and such in that tank. I managed to get all the other fish out of the tank (It was a community tank) except a kuhli loach - so far he has not gotten the eggs and papa hangs pretty close to them so maybe it will be ok. The worst offenders where some botia loaches that ate the last batch of eggs almost immediately. Keeping my fingers crossed!
