Re: [GSAS-Member] Denny's has galaxy rasboras: $25 each

This is a bit off topic I guess, but as a board member/officer of a local
purebred dog breed club (Puget Sound Siberian Husky Club), I thought I'd
add some thoughts. Many local pet stores DO offer kittens from shelters,
but the puppies, for the most part, are not provided by responsible
breeders. If you go in to any pet store offering puppies and ask for a 5
generation pedigree with genetic screening information on all ancestors on
the pedigree, you'll probably get a blank stare. This is something that a
responsible breeder offers. In addition, a responsible breeder will stand
by that puppy for it's entire life....if the new owener needs to rehome
the dog for whatever reason, a responsible breeder will take the dog back
or aid in the rehoming. Can you get that support from a local pet store?
Most of the breeding decisions made by those supplying puppies to pet
stores aren't good decisions....if you ask them what the Standard is for
the breed, chances are you will get another blank stare. This is one
reason why the temperaments of many breeds are going downhill.
Irresponsible breeders are making a mess of Siberian huskies. They breed
for blue-eyes, they breed for certain mask patterns and select for
black-and-white coloration. None of these criteria are important to a
responsible breeder. I could go on and on....
