Re: [GSAS-Member] Blue-Green Algae

Since I haven't been able to participate in any meetings for the past
year, other than the picnic, and am downsizing and refocusing my
energies, I won't be continuing my membership. I would like to donate a
big box of accessories including some filters and nice big rocks with
holes in them for the auction to support the club.

What the group has taught me thus far is that algae indicate a nutrient
imbalance. Perhaps the answer is to reduce the number of fish I have in
with the plants, since there is no real filtration on the tank. Just a
tiny sponge filter and a tiny pump, which are for the purpose of
keeping the water moving so the tank does not become warm water on top
and cold water below. I think I'll also go back to two bulbs instead of
four, since their have been no significant changes with four bulbs. My
attempt is to make as ecologically sound a system as possible. That
will also make it more resilient if the power goes out in future. I'll
postpone plans for adding Hydrogen Peroxide.

Wow, the krib article says they even eat blue/green algae. Neat fish! I
have to get some for my work tank, which always has a little bit of
every kind of algae, it seems.
