Hi Shango, They were originally brown, but with enough breeding comes mutations. Breeders selected those mutations that would otherwise die out in the wild (bright yellow "eat me!" fish) and ran with them... Its weird with ancistrus. I havn't had direct experience yet, but I have heard that if you cross two albinos, all their offspring will come out their original pigmented color, and the only way to get albinos is to cross either an albino and a regular, or two regulars with some albinism in their recent ancestry. The ones I brought to the last meeting, for example, have parents of the first option. Dads yellow, mums original. The offspring were roughly half and half. Heres some pictures of a different varieties of our "domesticated" ancistrus. The varieties are analagous to different color goldfish... all the same species, though: http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=49 jenny <*))))=< <*))))=< <*))))=< On 3/20/07, Shango Los <Shango@shangolos.com> wrote: > Hi there Jenny, > > I was glad to finally meet you at the last meeting. > > In your recent post regarding ancistrus, you said you thought you might > bring a bag of each color.
