For all who got the Peacock Gudgeons last night, I've kept them in a five and ten-gallon tank by themselves, along with Cherry Shrimp and snails. Papa Gudgeon entices Mama Gudgeon into the clay cave created by one of Dave's high-school student. Formerly, they were owned by Kate, who now on Oahu, and she used white PVC pipe. Maybe that's why Papa Gudgeon liked the white glazed cave the best. Males develop a hump on their head, and look like bulldogs. All have split fins on the top, and are yellow, red, blue, and black, with the females being as colorful as males. Males prance around in front of the female with their fins all spread out and trying to entice her to the cave. The female lays eggs over a period of few days. Then Daddy Gudgeon sits with the eggs until they hatch. The fry are very, very small. They eat paramecium, then move up to microworms, which are easy to grow, artemia are also good. I moved up to Grindal's and frozen Daphnia. It seems like they have taken forever to grow. They should get as big as a guppy. Maybe I need to do more water changes? I will bring some more to the June meeting. I have three spawns going.
